Tradie Catch › FAQ
FAQFair questions.
Divert, calendars, job grouping, your data and what it costs. If something's not answered here, Matt from Backbone Automation will answer it when he gets you set up.
Everything tradies ask.
Does call divert work on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone?
Yes. Call divert is a standard setting on all three. You set it once on your mobile by dialling a short code, like making a call, and we give you the exact code for your phone and number. It only diverts calls you don't answer, so your phone still rings first. Smaller providers that run on those networks usually work the same way; we'll check yours with you.
Which calendars does it work with?
Google Calendar, Outlook / Microsoft 365, and the iPhone (iCloud) calendar. You tap Connect your calendar on your settings page and sign in. For iPhone you make an app-specific password at account.apple.com and paste it in once. Some company Microsoft 365 accounts need their IT admin to approve it first. It books during the call, into the calendar you already use, so the job shows up on your phone like any other.
Does it group jobs by area?
Yes. When it offers times, it puts the ones near jobs you've already got first, like "he's already in Modbury Thursday morning, could he come 10:30?". It adds driving time between jobs so it never books an impossible back-to-back, and you can set optional area days (say, the north-east on Tuesdays). It always keeps a sooner option for the caller, and emergencies always get the soonest slot. Your weekly scorecard shows an estimate of the km saved. You can turn grouping off on your settings page.
What if it books something wrong?
It re-checks your calendar right before it confirms, so if something landed in that slot a minute ago it won't double-book, it offers another time. Move or delete a job in your calendar and it picks that up. If your calendar can't be reached, it never pretends to book: the caller is told you'll text to confirm a time, and you get a "NOT booked" text. It only books suburbs you cover and never quotes outside your own price guide. Every job comes to you as a text with the recording, so you see everything. Not sure about one? Reply "I'll ring them".
Can customers text instead of ringing?
Yes. Your text assistant replies, asks what they need and where they are, and books them into the same live calendar. You get the same one text per job.
Can I turn it off?
Yes. Text "turn it off". And because it's just a call divert, you can switch the divert off on your phone any time and your calls go back to exactly how they were.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. Your first month is free, then it's $399 a month, month to month. No lock-in contract.
Where is my data kept?
Tradie Catch is hosted in Australia, and built and run by Backbone Automation in Adelaide. Your job details, recordings and calendar connection are stored encrypted on that server, and each tradie's data is kept separate. The AI that understands the conversation is a third-party AI service based overseas; phone numbers and emails are masked before it reads a text.
Do I need to download an app or learn new software?
No. There's no app. Everything comes to you as a text, and you reply in plain English. Your settings live on one private web page you open from a link: on/off, calendar, job grouping, the suburbs you cover, your hours and your prices.
Does it work after hours?
It catches any call you don't pick up: on the tools, on the road, at the footy or after you've knocked off. Emergencies still get texted straight to you.
Each trade gets different calls.
